I felt like a 3rd grade LEP student suddenly thrust into a 12th grade honors English Lit. class.
My favorite and perhaps easiest tool that I could actually teach the students would be the Photostory. The students could use it to make a Social Studies timeline project....baby steps....
I know I need to incorporate more technology in the classroom, besides the Activboard and ELMO. I know I should step up to the 21st century way of teaching and not cling to the old ways. I must catch up with this "new" technology since it is the wave of the future and it will be a few years, at least, until I retire.ryandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06609852947310375047noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772405121103923991.post-11143546895948258932010-07-15T12:44:00.000-07:002010-07-15T12:54:15.066-07:00Tool #11The first thing I would teach the students is technology etiquette. They will need to show appropriate online behaviour. Their comments must be meaningful and appropriate, they should not leave any comments that they would not like me to read.
I also want my students to explore and to broaden their horizons so that they may perhaps teach me, but to do so safely. I will teach them not to give out any personal information....EVER! I will also emphasize that any kind of cyber bullying is unacceptable, whether to be on the giving or receiving end of the bullying is not permissible.ryandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06609852947310375047noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772405121103923991.post-26950057974583896702010-07-15T12:06:00.000-07:002010-07-15T12:16:08.298-07:00Tool # 10I cannot wait to use the itouches and i pads, but I hope that there will be workshops offered in the fall that will open my imagination to all the possibilities with this technology. There are several apps that I looked at that I might be able to use in the class: The Oregon Trail Free, Colonial Williamsburg, Math Tutor Lite, Math Tappers: Multiples, Math Tappers: Estimate FractionsMath Races Lite, and Write Answers:Sums.ryandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06609852947310375047noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772405121103923991.post-52357277917519951622010-07-15T11:49:00.000-07:002010-07-15T11:53:00.866-07:00Tool # 9Skype would come in very handy for students who may need help with their homework, they could get step be step instruction. Visual aids are most helpful when teaching math. Students could also work together on projects using Skype and Jing.ryandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06609852947310375047noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772405121103923991.post-5173009873784899562010-07-12T13:35:00.000-07:002010-07-12T13:51:33.313-07:00Tool # 8http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU2xUdGoloo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpV_i7r0ha4&feature=related

These are two helpful youtube videos on reducing fractions, a concept that students have difficulty understanding. It will a good tool for the kids to share ideas and for planning....they can use it for journaling about whatever math concept we learned for that week.ryandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06609852947310375047noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772405121103923991.post-29104473790160381562010-07-12T12:28:00.000-07:002010-07-12T13:32:16.375-07:00Tool #5I like using diigo because you can access your favorites from any computer. I can keep you organized, which I find very helpful. Eventually, I believe with some help the other math teachers, we can pull our resources together and create an effective library.
www.brainpopjr.com
www.brainpop.comryandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06609852947310375047noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772405121103923991.post-71809595484315651542010-07-12T11:03:00.000-07:002010-07-12T11:11:41.885-07:00Tool #4The Google Docs and Reader could be beneficial when doing lesson plans, road mapping, etc. I will definitely need more practice if I am going to be effective in using this tool!!!ryandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06609852947310375047noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772405121103923991.post-12686239082888537532010-06-23T15:30:00.000-07:002010-06-23T15:34:05.483-07:00Tool #3 Image Generators and MashupsI think these image generators will be really helpful when our students are doing Social Studies projects or presenting information of any kind to the class. I think they will have a blast just exploring these different sites!ryandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06609852947310375047noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772405121103923991.post-88601366731829012982010-06-23T13:46:00.000-07:002010-06-23T14:05:34.073-07:00Tool #2 PLN's1) What are your thoughts about building an online education community and participating in a PLN?

The PLN's are a wonderful tool for us to collaborate with our teammates and to share ideas.

2) What point stood out to you from the commenting advice?
I believe it is important for the students to learn to make effective comments, not just leave one or two word comments.

3.)
